St Peter’s Celebrates Global Neighbours Bronze Award!
We are thrilled to share that St Peter’s Church of England Primary School, West Hanningfield, has been awarded the Global Neighbours Bronze Award by Christian Aid. This national accreditation recognises schools that help pupils understand global poverty and injustice, while empowering them to act as courageous advocates for change.
At St Peter’s, our vision of “Enabling every child to flourish” (John 10:10) guides everything we do. Supported by the fruits of the Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control — our pupils are encouraged to flourish in body, mind and spirit, and to live out compassion, reflection and community in meaningful ways.
Through our Global Neighbours work, pupils have explored issues of fairness, sustainability and equality. They have learned about Fair Trade and even set up a stall selling fairly traded goods. Younger pupils led an inspiring Toilet Twinning campaign, raising funds to provide safe sanitation overseas, while older pupils wrote letters to a linked school in Uganda. Our Eco Council has met with representatives from Hanningfield Reservoir to discuss water conservation and climate responsibility.
Collective worship has given children opportunities to reflect deeply on global issues such as access to clean water and refugee experiences. These moments of worship and discussion have strengthened empathy and inspired real-world action.
The Bronze Award assessor praised St Peter’s for ensuring that every pupil has the opportunity to become a thoughtful, active global citizen who values diversity and seeks justice.
We are incredibly proud of our pupils and staff for their dedication and heart in achieving this recognition. Together, we continue to nurture young people who see the world through eyes of compassion and hope — making a difference locally and globally. 🌍✨
